Rheumatology

At the Hostafrancs Medical Center we have a Rheumatology Service.

It is the medical specialty dedicated to preventing, diagnosing and treating systemic musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases (locomotor and connective tissue).

There are many rheumatic diseases, more than 250 (including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, lupus, lumbago and gout) among others and can affect people of any age , from children to the elderly. Rheumatologic diseases in children are rare but potentially serious. Among adults they are more frequent and in total these pathologies affect one in four adults in Spain and in fact they are the second cause of consultation, after acute respiratory infections, in Primary Care. In addition, diseases of the musculoskeletal system are the ones that most deteriorate people's quality of life, above lung and heart diseases.

Musculoskeletal diseases affect muscles, bones and joints, as well as the tissues that surround them, and can cause inflammation, pain, stiffness, limitation of movement and deformity.
