Psychiatry

At the Hostafrancs Medical Center we offer the Psychiatry service, the medical specialty dedicated to the study and treatment of mental illnesses and disorders. Its goal is to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate disorders of the mind.

The psychiatrist deals with the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of people who suffer from disorders or disorders of thought and cognitive functions, conduct or behavior, affections or mood and psychosomatic alterations.

The doctor specialized in psychiatry deals with the understanding and treatment of psychic disorders, that is, of the mind. The psychiatrist adopts a medical model to deal with mental disorders, but also considers biological, psychological, socio/cultural and anthropological factors.

Psychiatric treatments are usually of two types: biological and psychotherapeutic.

Biologics are those that act on the patient's brain, at a biochemical level, as is the case with medications and electroconvulsive therapy.

Psychotherapists are those who use techniques such as psychotherapy to improve the patient's condition.
