Gynecology

The Hostafrancs Medical Center has a Gynecology and Obstetrics Service. It differs in two areas, since Obstetrics is the study of normal and pathological pregnancy, and Gynecology is the study of functional and organic diseases of the genital tract of non-pregnant women.

The Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the Hostafrancs Medical Center offers fully personalized gynecological care based on doctor-patient trust.

The Gynecology Service is the service for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of any pathology that affects the female reproductive system, as well as for gynecological check-ups, advice on family planning, fertility preservation, contraceptive methods, fertility problems and the arrival of the climacteric or menopause, among others.

There are different gynecological diseases that can affect women during their lives; below some with their explanations:

• Bartholinitis: is an inflammation of the Bartholin's glands or their ducts, which can be caused by various bacteria.
• Cervical cancer: is a malignant alteration of the tissue in the area of ​​the cervix (cervix).
• Endometrial cancer: is a type of uterine cancer that originates in the cells of the mucosa that lines the endometrium (inside the uterus).
• Breast cancer: is a malignant tumor of the mammary gland. In some very rare cases, men can also develop breast cancer.
• Ovarian cancer: is a malignant tumor of the female sex glands (the ovaries). It appears mainly in older women and its symptoms often do not manifest until it is in an advanced stage.
• Cystitis: cystitis or urine infection is an infection of the lower urinary tract or bladder.
• Vaginal infection: These infections are caused by fungi and usually appear several times a year in women for various reasons such as stress, infection by some STD, etc. It is the most common gynecological disease.
• Uterine fibroid: is a benign tumor that develops in the muscle cells of the uterus. They generally occur during the period of sexual maturity because estrogens regulate the growth of uterine fibroids.
• Polycystic ovaries: it is not the presence of “cysts” in the ovaries, but the presence of a considerable number of small follicles (less than 10mm) that exist in ovaries in a resting state and that in normal ovaries is usually much less.
• Retroverted uterus: is when the uterus (womb) tilts backwards instead of forwards.
